Before you proceed make sure that you check following.

Following screen shot should help

2. Make sure that “Reporting Services configuration” looks like following up to “database setup” i.e. all ticked.

If you overwriting an older report model skip this section and go next.

It’ll normally be, if you logged in same machine as reporting services installed try http://localhost/reports or if you logged in to a different computer and want to upload report model then you need to know the server name. The server name normally name of the machine.

For e.g. http://prorgamming/reports or http://jupiter/reports .

2. In Report Manager, navigate to the Contents page. Navigate to the folder “Models”. If this folder does not exist already create one by clicking “New Folder” option. See Figure 1 at the bottom.

3. Click Upload File.

4. Click Browse to select a file to upload. And select report model file typically ends with “.smdl”.

2. and click on “Update” link on the resulting page

There is one more step before we start building reports based on this model. That’s assigning “data source” for this report model so that report builder knows where to get data from.

To do this: Click on “Home” link and navigate to home page.

You don’t need to do following if you are overwriting existing model as it’ll already have a data source.

Setting Data source:

1. Create a folder called “Data Sources” if not already there. It is important you give exactly same name I typed above.

2. Navigate to “Data Sources” folder.

3. Click “New Data source”

4. In the “Name” text box type in “VipDataSource”

5. In the “connection string” paste following. Make sure that you change “Data source” value to your sql server name. Data Source=EnterServerNameHere;Initial Catalog=vip;Integrated Security=True

6. Make sure that all options match with Figure 2

7. Click OK.

8. Now Navigate to “Models” folder and click on the report model you just uploaded in step 1 (e.g. Opthalmology_Model) and click on “data sources” link on left hand side. See Figure 3 for help

9. Click “Browse” button and select the data source you created above (i.e. “VipDatasource”) click OK and click Apply.

10. Finally it should look like Figure 4.

That’s it now you are ready to build reports. You can click “report builder” link and start building Reports.
